Lost: Gone Baby Gone February 22, 2008

I sort of realized last night that I don’t really like Kate very much when she’s off the island. Part of it is that she seems to have extremely bad taste in both clothing and make-up – she actually looked better when she was in prison - but mostly it’s to do with her convoluted backstory, which seems to be the most ridiculous of any of the Losties except maybe Dez. Bank heists, arson, murder, running from Johnny Law and now, apparently, kidnapping? Jesus, she’s like a criminal overachiever.
On the other hand, I like how the flash-forwards are turning the motivations of each of the characters 180 degrees. Kate, the one who always likes to run away, fights to stay put; Jack, who wanted nothing more than to get off the island, now fights to get back; Hurley, who is always desperate for companionship, just wants to be left alone in a mental home. Those clever little Lost writers. Not clever enough that Shorty didn’t call who the kid was before the big reveal at the end, but that one was kinda obvious. So in the grand tradition of this show, we get one answer that merely opens up a shitload of more questions: How did she get Aaron? Did Claire make it off the island? Does Jack know Aaron is his nephew? What about all that stuff from the first season about how Claire’s baby is “special”? Etc. etc.
Otherwise, there was some awesomely juicy island shenanigans involving Miles and Ben (I’m really digging Miles, actually. I like the snarky ones) and blackmail – sorry, extortion - and more Locke badassery, who seems to be accelerating his ascension to full-bore Kurtzness at an alarming rate. Oh, and Hurley got to watch Xanadu. Man, I bet that’s hard going without weed.

So I just finished watching this.
I LOVE kate’s post-island style, She looks beautiful, understated, and classic. I don’t know what you’re talking about there.
But I agree with you on not really liking her or her story much. I don’t think we are realy supposed to trust her, though, so I definitely feel like I’m falling in line where the LOST people want me to be. But I’ve never liked her. and you’re right about her back story being silly nuts.
However, I don’t think she kidnaped Aaron, so to speak. Either Claire’s dead or didn’t make it off the island. Maybe Jack doesn’t want to acknowledge the kid because he’s got some kind of island voodoo in him? I dunno. But I’m sure he knows it’s Aaron.
Hurley is awesomeness all over. I just want to wrap my arms halfway around his body. Maybe I’ll go rewatch his love story with that sketchy blonde woman.
